  • Second Life to House 16 University of Texas Campuses – 3D TLC – 3D Training, Learning and Collaboration – Second Life has teamed up with the University of Texas System to create the first-ever statewide rollout of a virtual learning environment, developing virtual campuses for the school's 16 locations. Using a grant from the Transforming Undergraduate Education Program (TUEP), the school has built a 49-island archipelago in the virtual world space dedicated to science/math, international/intercultural, and health/medical studies. The overall grant awarded towards 'innovative proposals' from the TUEP totalled $2.5-million, but it is unclear how much of this went towards the SL initiative.   • British Airways Launches Virtual Training Module – 3D TLC – 3D Training, Learning and Collaboration – British Airways has partnered with Line Communications, a UK-based interactive learning and communications company, to develop a virtual 'aircraft visit' for use in training cabin crew on 777s. The program is built in Flash and uses 360-degree zones linked to videos. Three-dimensional icon displays launch instructional videos, and users control their move through the cabin using one of three navigational methods. The move will save the airline 20,000 pounds per year. The program has been approved in concept for training by the Civil Aviation Authority and is under review for full CAA approval.
